Easter project: no-sew bunny ears for your pet - a tutorial by Ooh Leela!

Hippity hoppity, Easter's on its way!

Have you ever come across anything cuter than a puppy wearing bunny ears?Ok, maybe you have, but you have got to agree that this is pretty darn cute!

This is a super easy, no-sew project, that you will be able to finish in just a few minutes! Such an appropriate last minute Easter project, dontcha think?

1. Supplies & tools: white felt, pink felt, elastic, fur trim (sold by the yard, in the trim/ribbon section at Joann), fabric marker, hot glue gun, needle and thread (optional). 2. Mark your pieces, according to the template, using your fabric marker. 3. Using template, cut 2 pattern pieces "A" of fur trim, 2 pattern pieces "A" of white felt, 2 pattern pieces "B" of pink felt and 2 pattern pieces "C" of white felt. 4. Glue the back o pattern piece "A" - fur to pattern piece "A" - felt.

5. Glue pattern piece "B" to the furry part of the ears. 6. Add glue & pinch ear as show in the picture. 7. Using pattern as a guide, make two 0.5" cuts to 1 of the pattern pieces "C" (the other "C" piece should remain intact). 8. Insert bunny ears in pattern piece "C."

9. Glue (or sew) elastic to pattern piece "C" (the one without the cuts). The length of the elastic will depend on the size of your pet's head. 10. Glue both pattern pieces "C" together, making sure the elastic ends are "sandwiched" between both pieces. Ta-da - done!

Sit back and look at your pet. Warning: your heart might melt. Take lots and lots of pictures. Do post them on our Facebook wall!

Happy Easter friends! May the Easter Bunny bring you lots and lots of chocolate! Oh, and don't forget to take a moment to think about the true meaning of Easter.

XO's!

Mother's Day gift bags & free cross stitch pattern

Mother's Day is just around the corner. I am so happy that I will get to spend it with my Mom. A little sad though, that I am not going to be able to give my Mother-in-Law a big hug.

With these great women in mind (and with great help from my aunt) I put together these cute gift bags. I will bake some sugar cookies and put it inside the bag and give it to these lovely ladies on Sunday.

Ooh Leela's Mother's Day gift bag

Materials:

Aida cloth: this piece is 16''x15'', but feel free to use your own measurements
embroidery floss in black, yellow, red and orange
embroidery needle
sewing machine
red ribbon
ceramic rooster (optional)

Step 1: Fold aida cloth in half; sew 2 sides (1 long side and 1 short side)

Step 2: Fray top edge. To do this, take the strands out of the edge; feel free to take as many strands as you'd like, to create the desired length of fringe effect. In addition, also fray 1 strand (1 block tall) approximately 3 inches from the top (this is where you will insert the red ribbon to close the bag).

Step 3: Using this cross stitch template, embroider the rooster. Make sure it is centered. For help, click here.

At this point, your bag should look like this:

Did you know that displaying ceramic roosters in the kitchen is a very traditional Portuguese custom? It is supposed to bring good luck. I found my rooster here.

Step 4: Insert the red ribbon.

Then insert some goodies (chocolates, cookies, jewelry, or whatever tickles your fancy), the rooster and a tag. Lastly, be sure to hug your mom. Hug her, hug her, hug her.

And to make it easier for you, I designed a gift tag that you can use. You can download it here.

If you come across any other Mother's Day projects, I would love to hear from you! Thank you so much for stopping by!

Have a lovely day!!!

Tutorial: DIY Easter basket

Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina! We arrived here last night and I have already fallen head over heels in love with this city. The architecture is amazing, the city is super ultra clean and the food is delicious. Everyone speaks English and is extremely helpful.

Because today is a holiday (Good Friday), I hear there is an open market a few blocks away from our hotel. I will be going there shortly to look for handmade treasures. Fingers crossed everyone!!!

But before I head out, I wanted to share a cute tutorial with you. This Easter basket is super easy and inexpensive to make. If you have children, be sure to include them. This is a super fun project!

Easter Bunny Basket by Ooh Leela!

Materials needed:
Foam sheets: orange, brown and white
1 plastic cup
scissors
pinking shears
bias tape
glue gun
ribbon
permanent markers: black, red and yellow
pink eye shadow and brush
black & white paint

Directions:
1. Using this template, cut an orange flower and 2 white bunnies.
2. Using the permanent markers and black paint, draw a face on both white bunnies. Use the pink eye shadow to add some color to the bunny's cheeks. Feel free to use my suggestion below or come up with your own bunny face :)

3. Using your hot glue gun, glue the orange flower to the bottom of a plastic cup.

4. Using your cup as a reference, cut a rectangle out of the brown foam sheet that is long & wide enough to cover the entire cup.

5. Add dots using white paint. Let it dry.

6. Using your hot glue gun, glue it to the cup as show below. Don't worry if you can still see some of the cup. We will use the bias tape to cover that in just a moment.

7. Forgive me, but I forgot to take pictures of the remaining steps. I was way too excited and could not wait to finish the basket.... Add bias tape to the top part of the cup.

8. Using pinking shears, cut a brown (or orange) rectangle large enough to be used as a strap. Add white dots if you wish. Glue it to the inside of the cup.

9. Make 2 bows. I used green ribbon because orange and green remind me of a carrot. Bunnies like carrots :)

10. Glue both bunny faces to the cup, one on each side.

11. Insert goodies in the cup. Perhaps even a note!

There you have it! I hope you enjoy it! Happy Easter everyone! May the Easter bunny bring you lots of chocolate bless your heart and your home! Xoxo's!

Free Valentine's Day printable cards

Visit the Etsy Angels blog for a great Valentine's Day cards tutorial! Check it out

I have a new computer!!!

Hello everyone!

I am beyond ecstatic today. I have been using the same laptop for the past 4 years. 4 years is a long time, especially for a relatively cheap laptop. But truth be told, I have always loved Mac's. In fact, a year or so ago, hubby took the Apple sticker that came with our iPod and stuck it on top of the VAIO logo on my laptop. It was there to remind me to work hard and save money so that I could actually afford to get a MacBook. I am proud to say that that day has finally arrived!!!

And to celebrate, I am going to make a nice laptop sleeve. I am trying to decide which tutorial to go with. Help a sister out, would you?

This one is from Sew, Mama, Sew!

And this one is from The Cottage Home:

Fabric-wise, I am thinking about using a pink and teal floral pattern on the outside and pink/white polka dot fabric on the inside. This is my first time making a laptop sleeve. Any helpful tips?

Have a LOVELY day!!!
